Game Development & Creating Games as a Hobby
Many enjoy creating games as art, just as a painter paints, or a musician creates music.
Some have the talent to create everything from sound, music, art and programing. Others like myself, borrow from the skills and talents of other creatives.
There is a lot of creativity in putting something together that tells a story, conveys emotion, or even something that is just for entertainment.
There are many free tools available to make this hobby accessible to everyone. Game engines like, Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot are free to use (as a hobby,) and an abundance of tutorials can be found on YouTube.
Game assets can be created using free software like Inkscape and Blender. They are also often freely available and in the public domain.
From sprites and different types of digital art to songs and sounds to add atmosphere to a project.
The community for game development is friendly and helpful. People share their projects for others to enjoy for free. Different platforms host Game Jams, which are friendly competitions in which
game development hobbists create a game in a short period of time. There are sometimes themes or limitations for game jam ideas, but these can really help creativity. At the end the whole community enjoys testing
and playing the games submitted by each other.
